The beach has always been a cherished destination for family gatherings. While a seaside vacation is often a chance to relax, soak in the sun, and do as little as possible, Puerto Escondido offers so much more. This coastal paradise is the perfect blend of laid-back relaxation and one-of-a-kind adventures, making it an ideal spot for an unforgettable week with your family.

At Casa Descalza, you’ll find the perfect balance of comfort, privacy, and space. Whether you’re traveling as a small group or with a larger family needing up to seven bedrooms, our villa accommodates up to 18 guests. Beyond the breathtaking scenery and attentive hospitality, you’ll enjoy the delicious and wholesome meals lovingly prepared by our team.

Day 1: Settle in and unwind

Start your journey by settling into Casa Descalza. Savor the incredible meals prepared by Brenda and Lucy, paired with refreshing drinks from the ever-smiling Beto. Spend the day exploring our board games or picking a book from our curated baskets to enjoy by the beach.

Day 2: Massages and turtles at Playa Escobilla

Begin the day with a relaxing massage in one of our bungalows. Then, depending on the season, head to Playa Escobilla, a turtle sanctuary just 25 minutes from Casa Descalza. Release baby turtles and, if you're lucky, witness the incredible arribadas of sea turtles.

Day 3: Reptiles at La Ventanilla

Visit La Ventanilla near Mazunte, where a local cooperative organizes boat tours to see crocodiles in their natural habitat. You’ll also encounter white-tailed deer and playful spider monkeys. A memorable experience for all ages.

Day 4: Culinary delights in Puerto Escondido

Dedicate the day to exploring Puerto’s culinary scene. Almoraduz is famous for its Oaxacan chef-driven cuisine, while Da Marco (Italian) and Chicama (Peruvian) are also top picks. If you’re in the mood for live music, check out Piyoli. For a local ambiance, head to Rancho Margaritas, where you might be able to spot a few crocs on the lagoon while you eat delicious fresh fish.

Day 5: Dolphins and whales at sea

Take a boat from Bahía Principal to spot whales (December to March) and marvel at the sheer number of dolphins. This magical experience highlights the richness of Mexico’s marine life.

Day 6: Bioluminescence and art

Visit Manialtepec Lagoon at night to swim among the glowing waters of bioluminescence, a unique natural phenomenon. For art lovers, nearby Casa Wabi, designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, offers a mix of architecture and creativity.

Day 7: Farewell with Puerto’s essence

Puerto Escondido isn’t your typical resort destination. Its charm lies in its connection to nature and its authentic small-town vibe. Spend your final day soaking it all in at a local café like Dulce Tierra and cherish this town’s anti-resort ethos.

Puerto Escondido invites you to enjoy its essence, whether by doing less or exploring more. Either way, it’s a destination to remember.

Conclusion: Puerto Escondido, a Destination for Every Pace of Travel

Whether you prefer to spend your days unwinding at Casa Descalza, soaking in the sun by the pool, or choose to venture out and explore all that Puerto has to offer, this destination has something for everyone. From its vibrant natural beauty to its authentic, laid-back atmosphere, Puerto Escondido delivers a truly unique experience, combining connection with nature, culture, and family life.

Here, you won’t find generic resorts but rather a community that embraces its charm and identity. With activities ranging from swimming in bioluminescent waters to sipping local coffee at a cozy café, Puerto has a magic that captivates every visitor.

Those who choose to take it slow fall in love with the serenity and views. Those who explore more are enchanted by its authenticity and adventures. No matter your pace, Puerto Escondido will leave an unforgettable mark on your heart.
